Apples are packed full of vitamin C, vitamin A, flavonoids, potassium and soluble fiber. And if that’s not enough, studies show that eating apples regularly can help prevent kidney stones, promote heart health and reduce cholesterol levels. (I’m not a doctor or nutritionist, I’m just really good at google searches.)
With only about 100 calories, apples are a great snack. And if you balance that snack with a protein, such as peanut butter, cheese or nuts, you get some serious bonus points from me. Here’s an easy way to switch it up and have a nice crunchy snack for the family.
Cinnamon Apple Chips. Two Ingredients – Apples and Cinnamon.
Yep, it’s that easy. Just slice up some apples very thinly (slice horizontally and remove seeds) and sprinkle some cinnamon on both sides. Place on parchment paper, be sure not to overlap. Then place in a 200 degree oven for 1-2 hours, then flip them and put them back in for another 1-2 hours. Let cool on counter, they’ll crisp up even more.
The good news — your house will smell like apple pie. The bad news — they take FOREVER and you’ll have drool stains on your shirt before they come out. The not-so-great news — they are apple chips, not apple pie. And let’s face it, I’m sure we would all rather have apple pie than apple chips, but we are also all on a mission of being healthy and fitting into those skinny jeans. Sooooo… you’ll just have to settle for the apple chips. You’ll thank me later.
